NICE JAZZ
FESTIVAL

Live performance is only part of the story.
NICE JAZZ FESTIVAL brings together artists, audiences, light, movement and the collective energy of a live event.
REDSHIFTLAB approaches the festival photographically as a complete environment — looking beyond the stage to the gestures, encounters, transitions and details that shape the experience around the performance.
The result is an image sequence built around rhythm, presence and atmosphere rather than a simple record of who appeared on stage.

THE PROJECT
To build a photographic narrative of the festival that connects live performance with the atmosphere surrounding it.
The work moves between stage, audience and environment, looking for the moments where music becomes visible — through gesture, light, movement, tension and collective attention.

APPROACH
Photographing live performance means working inside conditions that cannot be repeated.
Light changes, bodies move and decisive moments disappear almost immediately. The approach therefore combines anticipation with observation — staying responsive to what happens while maintaining a strong visual structure.
Rather than isolating performers from their environment, the photography looks for relationships between stage, audience, architecture and atmosphere.
